Price Updating
Prices can be changed for any product by searching for that product on the site and editing the price.
Once a year, when lot of prices are updated, this is the process.
NOTE: It must be carefully followed.
1. Export products by clicking Export on the Shopify Products screen. Select "All Products" and "CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs"
Do not add or remove any columns except the one noted below. Do not rename any columns. Do not change any data except the Prices.
2. You will get an email with that file - download and open it with Excel or Numbers.
3. Select the entire spreadsheet and Sort by Variant SKU and then Handle.
4. CUT all rows with items with duplicate SKUs and PASTE into another spreadsheet (delete those rows from your working price file)
Items that share the same SKU must be updated manually and can not be part of the import file. (they will all be set to the same price by Shopify)
5. Update Prices for the remaining non-duplicated SKUS by changing the prices in the Variant Price column on the price file.
If any products on the list should be removed from the site, do these two things:
-
- go to the website, under Products, find that item and Archive it
- delete that row from the spreadsheet
If you want to add new products, do NOT add them to this list. It's best to do that on the website using the tools there. Or send the new product information to IC.
Do not put anything in the Variant Price column except for numbers.
6. Import prices by clicking Import on the Shopify Products Screen. Add file and click Upload and Preview, then check "Overwrite products with matching handles." and click Upload and Preview. Lastly, you'll get a preview of the first product and can click Import to finish.
7. Check your Work.
Wait about 15 minutes, then spot-check multiple items on the website that you changed to make sure that the import worked.
OR wait about 15 minutes and do another Export - sort it the same way and compare the prices on that export to the file you just updated.
8. Manually update the prices for any items on the duplicate SKU spreadsheet that need updates.
Go to the Products page, search for the SKU and check the Handle, edit and update the price. Save. Click the back arrow to return to your search.
Shipping Updates
If making an update to the shipping information for an individual item, it's best to do that on the Shopify site using the instructions provided on the Updating Products and Collections instructions page.
If making updates to shipping info for lots of products, then use this process below:
- Export shipping information by going to either the XPO LTL Freight Quotes or UPS Small Package Quotes app and click on the Import CSV tab. Click on the Template link in the description. Enter your email in the popup and click send to get all products.
- Only update Quote Method, Freight Class, NMFC, Weight, Length, Width, Height columns
- Upload file on the same Import CSV screen, check the "The first row contains column headers" box. Click Next.
- On the next screen "Step 2", assign the Quote Method, Freight Class, NMFC, Weight, Length, Width, and Height Columns to each field using the dropdown. Click Next, enter your email in the popup up and click Send to start the import.
